“How long have you taken English classes at online school?”
“I had taken your classes for four or five years.But I haven’t taken them for the last two years because I wanted to have time to study Chinese.I just started to take your classes last week.”
“Oh,you are learning Mandarin too.Can you speak it?”
“I haven’t talked with anyone in Chinese yet.But I can speak a few words.ウオージャオイーポーションイエ.It means my name is Katsuya Iha.ニージャオシェンマミンズ.It means what’s your name.”
“Oh, you can speak Chinese.Are you going to continue studying Chinese.”
“Yes,I am enhancing my Chinese vocabulary.”
“Why are you studying Chinese?”
“We Japanese use Chinese characters and hiragana and katakana.Most of them stems from China.Japanese and Chinese people have shared many portion of the culture.So I think when we learn Japanese culture we need to learn Chinese culture.That’s why I am studying Chinese.”
１・2週間前からまたオンライン英会話を始めた。毎日、一日30分受けている。４・５年受けてあと、この2年間は受けてなかった。中国語を勉強する時間を取るためであった。以前は、英語を話すときは英語が頭に浮かび日本語は浮かんでこなかったのだが、2年間も話さないでいると、まず浮かぶのは日本語である。いちいち日本語を英語に翻訳してから英語を話すのでテンポが悪い。しかも、適切な表現がすぐに浮かばない。How can I say?I forgot the words.何と言ったらいいんだろう？忘れてしまった。などと言葉をつなぎ、何とか思い出そうとする。それでも浮かばなければ辞書をひく。
以前、頭打ちと感じていた英語力の向上が、また目だって伸び始めた。たとえ、後退したスキルを取り戻す段階とはいえ、向上そのものは気持ちがよい。しばらくは、軽快なスキルの向上を楽しむ。
